The Restructuring and Extension of the Distribution System of SBEE (PRESREDI) is an investment project for the extension of electrical networks and the construction of electrical connections. The project will be co-financed by the African development fund (AfDB) (43%), the French development agency (AFD) (47%) and SBEE (10%). The objective of this project is to increase the rate of access to electricity in Benin, and more specifically in the cities and surrounding areas of Cotonou, Porto-Novo, Abomey, Bohicon and Lokossa, to improve the quality of electricity supply, and reduce overall energy losses (estimated at 23% in 2015) in SBEE’s distribution networks. The PRESREDI project will provide reliable electricity to the inhabitants of these communes and surrounding areas, including schools, health centers, and commercial and industrial enterprises. More specifically, the project will enable SBEE to potentially add 40,000 new subscribers, which represents at least 212,000 inhabitants, including at least 109,000 women (51%). In addition, the project will benefit SBEE staff through a capacity building program.
