The Socio-Economic Infrastructure Development and Food Security Project in the Niger Basin is part of the Benin Government Action Programme (PAG) 2016-2021. It is underpinned by the following considerations: (i) contribution to the mobilisation and development of water resources; (ii) contribution to poverty reduction and food security in the project area; and (iii) contribution to the preservation and protection of the environment. Overall objective: to intensify and increase agricultural, pastoral and fisheries production; to improve the living environment of the project beneficiaries; to contribute to job creation; to fight poverty and create additional wealth. Specific objectives: development of 4 water reservoirs with a total capacity of 8,200,000 m3; construction of 8 boreholes equipped with human-powered pumps; construction of 4 storage warehouses; development of 169 ha downstream of the water reservoirs under total water control; reforestation of 250 ha of easement strip for the protection of the banks; development of 24 km of access track to the sites and 40 km of access corridors to the dams for cattle; accompaniment and support actions for development.
