The aim of this project is to increase access to electricity services for households, businesses and public infrastructure.
It will provide electrification to households, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and certain public facilities located within a radius of around 7 km of existing networks, based on a sustainable electrification plan that incorporates best practices, technical assistance and capacity building.
The Increased Access to Electricity project comprises three components:
Component 1: On-grid electrification. This component will finance the design, procurement of materials and construction works required to electrify all households and businesses in the project’s densely populated target areas located close to existing electricity grids.
Component 2: Strengthening policy, regulatory and operational reforms to implement the national electrification strategy. This component will support the implementation of key reforms necessary for the sustainability of the electrification strategy and related investment programmes. It will also facilitate the development of the gender dimension in the energy sector.
Component 3: Technical assistance and support for project implementation. This component will finance technical assistance (TA) and capacity building activities as well as implementation support for the Ministry of Energy (ME), SBEE, ABERME and AER in order to ensure the sustainability of the projects and to facilitate the monitoring of the achievement of the targeted results.
