Many of Benin’s young people have few or no qualifications, and are therefore unemployed. This is why AFD is supporting the improvement of technical and vocational training through the Development of Technical Education, Training and Professional Integration Project (DEFI-PRO). The aim is to help young people enter the job market. More and more young Beninese are completing primary school. Nevertheless, their access to secondary education remains limited. Technical education and vocational training remain undersized. As a result, the workforce is poorly qualified, and young people are heavily affected by unemployment. Despite the government’s efforts, technical and vocational education is struggling to attract students.
The DEFI-PRO project aims to strengthen technical and vocational education and training, and to adapt their provision to the needs of recruiters. It will thus contribute to Benin’s economic and social development and reduce social and territorial inequalities.
