The School Canteens project aims to facilitate children’s access to and retention in school through : (i) the supply and operation of the canteen ; (ii) the implementation of multisectoral activities at the school level (health, hygiene, agriculture) and support for producer groups to ensure local supply to the canteens ; (iii) the establishment of monitoring frameworks for the National Integrated School Feeding Program (PNASI) and the capacity building of institutional and community stakeholders.
Benin’s National Integrated School Feeding Program is expected to achieve 100% coverage by 2026, having already reached 75% of public primary schools. According to official statistics, the primary school dropout rate has decreased by 4% since the introduction of school canteens.
